If you look inside the architectural models on display at the exhibition There is Room by the architecture office Kwong Von Glinow, you will notice that each space is realistically staged with scaled furniture. Tables, chairs, sofas, bookshelves, side tables, and artwork populate living rooms, bedrooms, entry ways, and many other hybrid spaces. Among the pieces of furniture, one can see work by Jonathan Mueke, Herzog de Meuron, Faye Toogood, and Kwong Von Glinow. The relationship between art, design, and architecture are highly considered aspects of Kwong Von Glinow’s forward-looking approach to living environments.

Chicago-based Volume Gallery, established in 2010 by Sam Vinz and Claire Warner, focuses on material-driven practices across disciplines with a concentration on contemporary and historical American art and design. There is a commitment to finding meaning in materiality and a dedication to advancing innovative makers of the present and recent past.

During this event, Kwong Von Glinow and Volume Gallery will discuss the relationship between space and design as well as how contemporary designers are producing designs with cultural significance that speak to contemporary culture.

This event takes place during Exhibition Weekend Chicago.

This lecture is a partner program of the 2023 Chicago Architecture Biennial.
