Event featuring architecture offices DAAM, Future Firm, and Kwong Von Glinow. The event took place at The Joinery (2533 West Homer Street Chicago, IL 60647).

Contributors

The first edition of the MAS Context Now / Arriving series featured three Chicago-based architecture offices that shared a completed project and a project in the works.

In this edition, we had presentations by Chicago-based architecture offices DAAM, Future Firm, and Kwong Von Glinow.

All three offices were recently included in the Next Generation 2022 series by Wallpaper* and have completed remarkable projects in Chicago. This was a great opportunity to meet the architects and learn about their recent and ongoing work.

DAAM

DAAM is an award-winning professional design firm founded on principles of collaboration and cross-disciplinary practice at the intersection of Design, Architecture, Art, and Making. Their mission is to advance creative thinking-and-doing in the built environment through a hands-on approach to building physical places and things. Founded in Chicago in 2016 and led by Elyse Agnello and Alex Shelly, their small—but mighty—team is committed to carefully listening, actively researching, and passionately working to realize new ideas of all kinds.

Future Firm

Founded by Ann Lui and Craig Reschke in 2015, Future Firm designs spaces for clients who are change-makers in their own communities. Their work spans diverse scales: from events to residential and commercial buildings to urban and territorial speculations. Future Firm also currently operates The Night Gallery, a nocturnal exhibition space on Chicago’s South Side, which features video and film works by artists and architects from sunset to sunrise.

Kwong Von Glinow

Kwong Von Glinow is an award-winning architecture practice based in Chicago founded in 2017 by Lap Chi Kwong and Alison Von Glinow on the belief that architecture is meant to be enjoyed. The practice builds the thoroughly enjoyable from the slightly familiar. Their work translates forward-looking architectural concepts into playful designs with broad appeal. Taking an optimistic and explorative approach, KVG focuses on creating innovative living environments, places for cultural engagement, urban public space, and contemporary workspaces. Kwong Von Glinow are recipients of the 2018 Architectural League Prize of New York for Young Architects, have received a Graham Foundation Grant for their project Smuggling Architecture exhibited at the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel, Switzerland, and have been selected for the inaugural commission for the Designing a Better Chicago Pavilion along the Chicago Riverwalk for their project Give me a minute, please!
