Camilo José Vergara

Camilo José Vergara is a photographer and writer. Since the early 1970’s he has been documenting poor, minority communities in the United Stated by photographing the built environment in New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Newark, Los Angeles, and sixteen other cities. A MacArthur Fellow, he is the author of many books, most recently Harlem: The Unmaking of a Ghetto (University of Chicago Press, 2013). In 2013 he was awarded the National Humanities Medal.
