About

James Florio is a Montana-based photographer focused on the built environment and the life surrounding it. He works slowly whenever possible, visiting a place more than once to gain a greater understanding of it in order to deliver a thoughtful and profound interpretation. He is currently working on long-term projects documenting the unique changes of nature, climate, and time on architecture and landscapes. Working both with digital and film, he prefers to shoot in medium or large format for its depth and deliberation. His work has been featured in magazines and books, including Gio Ponti in the American West (2020), Divisare Books, National Geographic Traveler, Domus, Abitare, Architect Magazine, Architectural Record, Modern in Denver, and Arquitexto among others. James is the recipient of the 2022 Julius Shulman Institute’s Excellence in Photography Award.
