Juan Luis de las Rivas

Juan Luis de las Rivas received his PhD in Architecture in 1988 from the University of Navarre. He is currently a professor of Planning and Urban Design at the School of Architecture of Valladolid. He is the Director of the Department of Urbanism at the School of Architecture of Valladolid and the former director of the Instituto Universitario de Urbanística (IUU). His current research focuses on the relationship between nature and city, exploring urban and peri-urban landscapes in order to promote sustainability and innovation in cities and regions. He is the author of multiple books, including El espacio como lugar (1992), Modos de urbanización y desarrollo sostenible (2000), and Territorios Inteligentes, (with Alfonso Vegara, 2004). In 2016, his book Superciudades was awarded the Gerd Albers Award by the ISOCARP association.
