Nancy Abshire

Nancy Abshire, AIA Emeritus, RIBA, is a Chicago-based architect. She joined Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in 1968 and, throughout her 51-year career with SOM, she worked on diverse projects, such as high-end retail, newspaper printing plants, power generation stations, prefabricated hotel room modules, and bank buildings. Nancy was the Executive Director of the SOM Foundation from 2010 until her retirement in 2019. She became a founding member of Chicago Women in Architecture in 1974 and in 2021, she was awarded the Chicago Women in Architecture Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.
