Resolver Studio

About

Resolver Studio is a design practice based in Chicago and led by Claudia Ansorena (Cuba) and Rogelio Cadena (USA). The practice is grounded in the Cuban spirit of resolver—to make do with what is around—as an attitude towards material reuse and contextual thinking. The work intends to bring visibility and activation to underused spaces that have been affected by disinvestment and gentrification to instead support communities through projects that provide a platform for agency, ownership, and neighborhood development. The duo met while studying architecture at the University of Miami. In Miami, they collaborated on projects that include Casa Florida (2021)—a five-unit apartment building that addresses the city’s missing middle housing—and Neushop (2017)—a flagship store and community space. Claudia went on to receive a Master of Architecture from Yale University, where she was the editor of Retropecta 44. Rogelio went on to receive a Master in Architecture and Urban Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, receiving the Urban Design Thesis Prize for his research on the historic Chicago Park Boulevard System. More recently, their work in Chicago includes activations along the Boulevard, such as Piñatas on the Blvd (2024).
