Susan King

About

Susan King is an architect who, in 2007, became the third woman Principal at HED, a national firm founded in 1908. Her award-winning work includes buildings that integrate social, economic, and environmental responsibility with aesthetically appealing design solutions for underserved populations. In 2013 she was the eighteenth woman from Illinois to be elevated to the National AIA College of Fellows. King has received individual recognition over her career from Green Building & Design Magazine with a Women in Sustainability Leadership Award, Best Green Architect, Reader’s Choice Award, by Mindful Metropolis Magazine and by I4 Design’s Suite Sixteen Program: as one of 16 designers “to watch” in the Midwest. King is a past president of Chicago Women in Architecture. Today, she serves on the CWA Foundation Board and occasionally acts as the accidental historian for the organization.
